The exciting House League Championship Weekend was held Friday April 11th to Sunday April 13th, and we sincerely hope that all participants & spectators had fun and enjoyed the games.
We would like to thank the many volunteers who made the weekend possible, including convenors, coaches, students, and the executive. Thank you to the International Silver Stick Tournament for sponsoring the weekend, as well as our many sponsors who sponsored a house league team / division this past year.

The Results for the weekend are now posted, as are the Regular Season Award Winners and our 2014 Graduates. Click here to go to the House League Championship Weekend page to see these postings.

Novice AA, A, AE, & Tyke MD

There have been several questions/concerns raised as to why Coaches haven’t been named for the Novice division and Tyke MD teams. Interviews have taken place for candidates for these teams however the Association is trying a different approach for these age groups this season. The NMHA will be running the tryout process and using independent evaluators, picking the teams and then deciding which of the various candidates are appropriate to Coach at each level.

As there are a lot of unknowns in the younger age groups that are just starting out with the Rep experience, we felt this was a reasonable and fair approach to try. Of course we will be monitoring the process closely to assess its overall effectiveness throughout the coming season before deciding whether this approach will be adopted as the norm for these age groups in the seasons to follow.

NMHA seeks a new I/T / webmaster volunteer.

The NMHA is looking for a volunteer who would like to become the webmaster for the association.
This role is accountable to the President in maintaining the website and the Twitter feed for the association, and interfacing with the web service supplier on all issues related to the website as well as email services. This role works closely with the Administration team as well as the Executive Board in ensuring that the website professionally reflects the association in the community, and makes recommendations to the Board on I/T matters. As the NMHA pursues a new website solution for next season, with an exciting new look and improved functionality, this role will be instrumental in the deployment of that solution.
If you are interested in volunteering your time in this year-round role, please contact Murray Taylor at president@nmha.on.ca

Permission To Skate Form for York Simcoe Express AAA Tryouts

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) requires that every player trying out for a AAA team provide their AAA zone with a Permission to Skate (PTS) form which they must obtain from their home centre prior to stepping on the ice. In order to receive a PTS form from the Newmarket Minor Hockey Association (NMHA) a player must be a resident of Newmarket. Please note that a permission to skate form is not a player release nor is it an OHF AAA Waiver form.

The NMHA can only provide a PTS form for the York Simcoe Express (YSE) for players eligible to play with the YSE. We cannot provide a PTS form for any other AAA Zone. If a player is cut from the YSE they can request an OHF AAA Waiver form from YSE to allow them to tryout with an adjoining AAA zone, otherwise they must come back to Newmarket to play.

Permission to skate forms will be available from the NMHA office as of April 14th.

To speed up the process if you send an email to nmha@on.aibn.com with the following info, a PTS can be prepared for you in advance provided the player’s registration for the past season can be verified. You can pick up the form from our office on April 14th, or request that if be faxed or sent by email.

Info Required:
Player Name
Date of Birth
Previous Season Team
YSE Team player is trying out for
Let us know if you will pick it up, or want form faxed to you (provide number) or sent by email (provide email address)

If you are new to Newmarket and wish to try out for the YSE, first time players must provide a copy of the player’s birth certificate and proof of residency, if moving to Newmarket from another centre must complete a transfer form, which must be submitted to the OMHA for approval prior to trying out.

Junior Permission to Skate forms will also be available as of April 14th.
